Appointment set for 1pm. Exactly 2 1/2 weeks after birth. The Second follow meeting was ready.
There were FOUR different measurements we were most interested in finding out.
- Weight
- Is your baby gaining weight?
- Many infants loose weight in the first few weeks, this is a normal healthy trend.
- According to The Mayo Clinic, From birth to age 6 months, a baby might gain 5 to 7 ounces (about 140 to 200 grams) a week. Expect your baby to double his or her birth weight by about age 5 months.
- Length
- Is your baby growing in length?
- According to The Mayo Clinic, From birth to age 6 months, a baby might grow 1/2 to 1 inch (about 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters) a month.
- Head circumference
- Is your babies skull expanding and growing to allow normal brain development?
- Growth at any remeasure is a good sign. There are charts on the CDC website for growth by percentile
- Bilirubin
- Is your babies liver at full power yet?
- Most newborns will be jaundice for 2 to 4 weeks.
- Remedy: Lots of indirect sunlight, eating and further development of your babies growing liver.
